Perfect for stealthy urban camping, this vintage 87 VW Vanagon is your ticket to ride the California swells. Fully restored with reliable mechanicals, this "Weekender" edition features the best seven seater setup with two rear facing jump seats and foldout bed. The jump seats can be removed before rental for more cargo room, and there's a fold out table for your favorite grinds. This van has a Thule Surf rack, full panoramic windows, and and a detachable curtain set for extra privacy. Perfect for a quick trip up the coast, or as a spectacularly rad substitute for a rental car on your next SoCal surf trip. Longboards fit inside easily for overnight hotel stays, or park it in the San O line for a budget surf vacation.The engine was recently serviced with new heads, and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly. It has a nimble, cruisy ride on period correct 14" rims. Please keep in mind that this is a vintage rig, max highway speed is 65 mph, and even with all the upgrades and a perfectly tuned stock engine, the van is quite slow up hills (45-50 mph) and climbing steep grades should be avoided whenever possible. Please note that travel on or over the "grapevine" is strictly forbidden (the pass on the 5 freeway between LA and Bakersfield), so if you're traveling the coast, the 101 should be your route of choice.At its heart, a Vanagon is a compact, easy to drive, van. However, it's important to note that in a "cab over" vehicle, the driver is positioned on top of, or "over" the wheels, vs. a standard passenger car where the front wheels are 2-3 feet in front of you. The difference completely changes how the vehicle handles, especially in turns, which takes some getting used to. The manual shift and the automatic versions are both a joy to drive, but please keep in mind that they are not performance vehicles - they are vintage beach cruisers and must be treated with love & care.No smoking at all (of any kind) inside the van, and pets are also not allowed.To keep these vintage machines running strong, please refill with premium gas (91 octane or higher).

My wife Amanda and I are the owners / founders of a small women's surf & swimwear brand called SEEA. Since moving to Southern California in 2010, we've been surfing at San Onofre and exploring the Pacific coast, from Baja up to Big Sur. We got our first VW in 2014, the same year our daughter was born. Since then, restoring VW's has been my main passion and hobby. Westfalia campers are truly unique vehicles, and there's simply nothing I like better than cruising the coast with my family in a well-tuned vintage van. As a natural extension of our own surf & travel adventures, the decision to share that stoke with others is a joyous one - so we're excited to introduce SAN-O VAN as a fun, alternative platform for your surf centric coast explorations.

Our experience with the Vintage VW camper van exceeded our expectations. It had everything we needed, drove great and slept comfortably, we will definitely do this again for future surf trips! Brian was a most gracious host, he took extra time with us, making sure we felt comfortable with the van and even supplied us with a few necessities that would have been rough to travel with. We also enjoyed talking and getting to know him! Super nice guy and made the whole experience just that much better. Highly recommend one of Brian’s vans if you like a low key way to camp and tool around CA!

My friend and I shared this van for a week in November 2022 and what a trip it was! Brian took lots of care to explain how everything works and what it’d be like to drive - you can tell he’s passionate about these vans and that he wanted to share that excitement with us. Based on our needs, Brian took the two back seats out before we left so that we’d have more room. He also gave us great advice on traffic timelines and finding campsites since it was our first time doing that in California. The van was a lot of fun to drive, and everything works as expected. It’s in great condition! Would not hesitate for a second to take one of these vans again :)

Had an amazing time in Brian’s vanagon! We took it to San Onofre for two nights of camping. The vanagon was just what we needed for my husband and I to sleep soundly. Brian thoroughly explained how everything worked and even set us up with an additional topper for the mattress and linked my iPhone to the stereo for the best music experience. From start to finish he was very communicative and made sure I had everything I needed. Highly recommend, it was so much fun!

I am not a person who loves to write reviews and honestly will try to avoid at all costs but my experience with Brian and his vans (we rented 2) was so far and above our expectations that I wanted everyone to know about his little fleet and what an incredible service he offers.
