First time renting a camper trailer, and honestly… it’s a no-brainer. I’m a 20-year REI-style tent camper. I love the outdoors, but as a dad I’m finally ready for the comfort upgrade. This Happier Camper HC1 was cozy, cute, and genuinely functional. My wife’s biggest takeaway: she felt safe the whole time, and that matters. I’m 6’2” and I was surprised how well I fit on the queen bed setup. Sleeping was solid. Big thing to understand: this isn’t “RV life.” It’s a tent-and-sleeping upgrade. Nothing more. If you already have solid camping gear and basic outdoor know-how, this is perfect. If you’re like me and you just want a better bed, more security, and an easier hangout spot when it’s raining, this is the perfect pick. Towing setup was the main learning curve. Getting my Subaru Outback dialed in for hitch and wiring took work. I did a lot of the labor myself and saved over $1,000, but if you’re new to towing, plan for that learning curve. Once it was set up, it towed smooth and turned surprisingly tight. A couple notes for first-timers: • On the highway, it’s more comfortable staying under 60 mph to reduce turbulence. • Our Outback’s rear suspension felt stiff, so you notice bumps more while towing. • Backing up and parking is still a brain re-wire. Small steering inputs matter. Go slow. One more win: it’s light enough that if you’re getting frustrated parking, you can unhitch and push it into place, which we ended up doing. And honestly… we love the whole vibe and look too. We might be total Happier Camper people. Overall, we’re really happy with the design and how easy it was to use. Until we have local storage and we’re consistently doing 4+ trips a year, renting makes the most sense. Once we hit that rhythm, it’ll be time to buy.

We had a great trip in the Happier Camper. Diana and Diego are super communicative and helpful in showing us all the ins and outs of the trailer. They set it up so nicely and everything worked out great!

Diego and Diana have set the bar really high for hosts. I don't think I've ever run into people so accommodating and that runs the gamut of all crowd sourced rental services. This alone made the trip so wonderful and that's besides how awesome their Happier Camper HC1 is. If you're reading this review, I'm going to warn you right now that you might not walk away without a huge desire to purchase one for yourself. I can say with confidence that Diego and Diana were a key reason why we had one of our best weekends in a long time. You won't regret renting this trailer from the nicest hosts we've ever met. Thanks for sharing your wonderful camper with us!
