Where is OFF-LIMITS?

Green Sands Beach, Maklawena and Road to the Sea This FJ is capable 4x4, but Off-Road driving is not allowed. Many areas are restricted, and Outdoorsy or the host will not cover towing or recovery costs for any off-road incidents (Island Off-Road Towing is can cost up to $7,000). Please treat the rig with care and stay on legal, designated roads. and Maklawena

Where can I park and camp?

Safe camp sites: county parks (Spencer Beach-easiest short notice, Punaluʻu, Ho‘okena- must need reservation with verifications), Volcanoes NP (permit required), and vetted Hipcamp spots. Hilo: Arnott’s Lodge + also have BnB referrals via Add-Ons. No overnight at Mauna Kea, Maklawena or Green Sand Beach. Full tips in your travel guide.
