Responsive, helpful, and accommodating
Lucas and team are responsive, accommodating last-minute bookings, and assist with issues like campsite finding and reimbursements. However, one guest noted poor communication on airport parking and international transaction fees.
Easy to drive, good mileage
The van is easy to drive with surprising gas mileage, allowing full island exploration on one tank. It's comfortable and well-equipped for glamping, but one user reported low tire pressure, a non-working key fob, and no phone charging port.

5.0I cannot begin to explain how perfect our experience with Hawaii Surf Campers was, but I’ll try. My kids and I booked this trip after a year from hell, coming from Minneapolis, MN. I’m a single mom and teacher with a second job as a server, so lots of extra shifts picked up to make it all happen. I hadn’t realized how rare it was to experience Oahu through camping. There are no sites or grounds with electrical hook ups and very limited drive in sites in general. I had heard that you can camp anywhere on public land, but that really refers to tent camping. We did book a site through the Hawaii state parks but COULD NOT FIND IT! The directions were confusing (go towards the mountain 🙄…) We we’re so frustrated and exhausted and I called Lucas who was our airport pickup guy and he hooked me up with a guy who had an amazing beachfront property complete with WiFi and an outhouse with plumbing, which ended up being such a gift. It was a perfect set up. And the RV itself-the Big Greenie-had everything we needed. It was easy to drive and I was surprised at the gas mileage. We explored the entire island and only had to fill up once. And after returning the vehicle, Lucas realized I had already paid for a pick up, which I didn’t remember doing, so made sure we were reimbursed for that charge. He was very helpful regarding suggestions and checking in to be sure we were safe. I highly recommend using one of their vans to explore the island for all or most of your trip (we booked an Airbnb in Waikiki for the last 2 days just to have that experience too). 3.0Communication overall was not good. The need for a ticket to exit the parking area at the airport was not explained to me ahead of time. It was not in the car when I reached the gate. It either dropped from the car before I knew its importance, or was never there. In any case I had to pay the lost ticket price and the owner refused to take some responsibility for the situation. Prior to dropoff I was told I would get a video sent to me explaining where to go. This was not sent and finding the spot is not straightforward. The condition of the vehicle was not good. Air pressure was low on pickup. The remote key fob doesn’t work. The swinging door on the side has no inner handle so a kid can’t close it. The screen for the backup camera is about 3” in size and is too dim to see in bright sunlight. Renters should be aware that passengers in the back seat (kids for example) cannot see outside. There are no screens to keep bugs out if you want to open doors at night. There is no way to plug a phone into the console for charging or any other purpose. This all might be fine if it’s just a place for 1-2 adults to crash, but for a family of 4 it was not good and I would not recommend it

5.0I booked this van for a couple days for a weekend trip with 3 kids. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Hawaii surf campers had a smooth check in and checkout process, and gave us all the info we needed for a solid trip. The van was great and gave us that glamping experience. We will definitely rent this again!

5.0My husband and I’s first time in Hawaii for our honeymoon and first time in a camper van. Lucas was great at communicating from the start and was able to accommodate our super last minute reservation. We were beyond pleased with the van and it was the perfect way to explore Oahu!!
