Pressures off-platform payments

Gabriel pressured a renter to pay mileage fees directly, outside the app, creating an uncomfortable feeling. He also delayed a trip due to late cleaning and provided only verbal, extensive vehicle instructions.

Well-outfitted, challenging high bed

The van is well-outfitted with a comfy bed and slide-out storage, exceeding expectations. However, the 4-foot high bed lacks a ladder, making access difficult for some. Also, vehicle tags were out of date.

The trip and RV experience was great. What made the experience bad was dealing with the host after. Right before we left for the trip I exchanged numbers with the host for more direct communication in case of an emergency with the vehicle. During our rental we drove over the daily millage limit so we knew there was going to be a fee to cover this. However the host kept messaging me about paying the fee directly to him and how this will be better because we won't have to go through the app. I initially entrained the idea but then decided against it as it did not seem the right way to resolve this. I told him I rather do any required payments the official way through the app. He did not like that and kept trying to make me pay him directly. Ultimately I refused and he was forced to charge me through the app. This experience makes me to not want to use this app again as this host made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable with all the pressure he was applying.

There were a number of problems with our trip but only a few were the result of the host. Our main problem was not realizing how difficult it would be for people our age (in our 70s) to access the bed. It is perched up high - maybe 4' - with no ladder and just a tall bench halfway up to assist. Getting in and out during the night wasn't easy, to say the least. The van is well outfitted. Our trip start was delayed several hours because the host couldn't get it clean in time; the previous people returned it late but he told us it would be ready by noon; it was after 3 by the time we could leave. Written instructions on all the van's systems would have been very helpful; we got all that verbally and it was a lot to take in! The tags on the vehicle were way out of date but luckily we were not pulled over.

We had such an amazing experience! The van far exceeded our expectations! Gabe was excellent at explaining every detail and operation of the vehicle. The van was clean, well stocked and the bed was SUPER comfy. We can’t wait to get back on the road soon! Thanks Gabe!!! Highly recommend.

We rented Gabe's Sprinter and it was a terrific experience. Gabe gave us a good tutorial and the Van was in excellent shape and outfitted for all our needs and more.

Hello adventurers! We are Gabe & Mel from Bend, OR. Our passion for adventure has taken us across the globe. Along the way, we've learned that the journey is just as important as the destination. Our first motorhome was a '78 Winnebago with north of 200k miles. After that experience, we switched to a more road-worthy steed -- we built out & lived in a Sprinter van for 2+ years, crisscrossing the USA, ticking rock climbs and bagging peaks. Along the way we learned what matters in van life: smart design, reliability, and maximizing every square inch. Our latest Sprinter (listed on Outdoorsy) represents the culmination of that knowledge. We designed and had it professionally built here in Bend. Every detail reflects hard-won wisdom from the road.
