Me and the wife rented this bad boy for a few days. Drive the coast with it and had an awesome time. One of our favorite trips for sure. Joe is a stud and great to deal with. Communication was great and the car was super fun. Definitely going to rent it again.

A great little trailer which is as described on the listing. Very clean with quite a bit of storage. The only issue we ran into is that since we were camping in locations without power, we found that the battery did not last very long powering the fridge. The fridge is actually a cooler which is powered electrically via the battery. So if you cannot get it powered via battery we just opted to put some ice in it. A nice feature is a secondary cooler in the back which store a couple bags of ice and beer and wine. A great little trailer for a trip. Both Mark and Joe were very good about flexibility which is always appreciated. They met us for both the pick and up and drop off to sign off on it all.

The experience with this rental was mixed and while many aspects of it were positive, in the end, I would not rent from them again.--Positives: The camper is exactly as described. It is small, perfect for 2 people on a short weekend camping trip. Joe was thorough in explaining the features and how to tow the camper. We felt very comfortable driving it even though we had never tow'd a camper before. Joe's pick up and return policy is 24 hour pick up/return intervals (i.e pick up at noon, return at noon), however he was flexible with our arrival and return times since they did not exactly match up.
--Neutral: The camper doesn't have a shower so if you need that, consider it. We stayed at an RV park that had restroom/shower facilities so it didn't matter. Also, we weren't aware that you have to ask to add-on the sleeping items (sleeping bag, pillows, towels) which Joe does offer, so if you need those, be sure to have them added-on on your transaction (minimal fee I believe).
Also, on return, Joe told us he wouldn't be present and his business partner might or might not have been present, and asked that we park the vehicle on a different street than the one he lives on because the neighbors don't like the camper parked on their street. We took videos and photos of the camper and vehicle before we left because we didn't feel great about the idea. If you feel wary about this return policy, be sure to coordinate with Joe, because he didn't make us aware of this until a few hours before we would be returning the vehicles.--Negative: Joe did not keep our agreements in a few instances and for that my review is mostly negative and I would not rent again:
1) I had very specific travel plans and had messaged Joe prior to renting with him because I wanted to make sure that they would work. He confirmed my plans and I completed the rental agreement for the camper and his tow vehicle, the Honda Element. However one month later he cancelled the tow vehicle, because he had double booked the vehicle on 2 websites. He offered to refund 1 night stay for the mistake. He confirmed that he would refund me multiple times both on Outdoorsy messages, in person, and over the phone. I have yet to receive that refund, even though the booking is complete. Outdoorsy has tried to contact him several times and he has not returned their messages.2) Because of my travel plans, Joe and I had agreed that I would pick up the tow vehicle on the first day and pick up the camper on the 2nd day. However, we would review both vehicle's features and check-out on day 1 to save time. When we arrived on the first day, Joe originally asked if we could change plans and review the camper on day 2 so that he could wash it. I said that I didn't mind seeing it even if it was dirty. On further questioning, the camper wasn't even at the residence, it was still in storage off site. Had he initially presented it that way, it would've been acceptable rather than dishonest.Overall my impression of the rental was negative because of the communication. There were too many last minute changes which made it stressful, and he was dishonest in 2 instances- one which dealt with money.
Joe and Mike have 5 star reviews, so I can only hope my experience was a fluke. In the case that you decide to rent with them, I would be sure to communicate only through Outdoorsy as it recommends.

We very much enjoyed our last minute overnight in the HC1. Our 2009 Volvo CX70 had no problem pulling the trailer, the bed was long enough, the configuration very adaptiv, and warm at night. The many widows ( on every side), the small footprint, and the hatch back opening made it feel more like camping than trailering. Joe and Mike were very responsive, thorough, and helpful for the rental.

From start to end the experience was great! Joe was very responsive to my communication prior and during my rental. The Honda Element was a nice drive out to Eastern Oregon. As you can see it wasn't rough terrain that I parked in. I got a lot of looks on this setup and questions about the uniqueness of having to sleep on top of the vehicle.
Comfort: The padding was a bit hard to get use to because I just recently switched my mattress on my bed so sleeping on something a little harder was new to my body. Other than that, I enjoyed how cozy the sleeping quarters was and the ability to vent it to allow the air flow through at night.
I was the only one in the vehicle so it provided the necessary space to haul everything I needed. The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't recognize my USB cord to allow me to play music via my phone. Not a huge deal just unfortunate because I lacked radio options while driving through rural areas. I was able to keep my phone charged through the cord so that was the most important part.
I did mention to Joe that I really liked the experience and will be looking to rent again in the future especially for the value compared to staying in a hotel or renting a camper van.

We had a great trip with the Happier Camper. Very easy to tow and set up. Super comfortable sleeping. Cooking worked well. Got lots of compliments on the cute trailer!

We loved the Happier Camper, especially that we could stand up in it! Roomy, comfortable, efficient, and Joe’s service and communication were top-notch! Friendly, helpful, really a great experience overall!

From the time we got the camper we knew it was a great decision. Small, comfortable and cozy we enjoyed the next several days along the southwestern coast of Oregon. Joe made the instructions easy and returning the camper was a breeze. Great experience!!

We were interested in knowing how this trailer would tow with our Subaru Outback. It was great! Hardly knew it was there once you got up to speed. The process of renting was smooth and enjoyable dealing with Mike and Joe. We appreciate their patience with us, the camper cleanliness and support.

Mike was ready right on time where we agreed to meet for the pick up and return of the trailer. Everything was ready to go. He answered all questions ahead of time. One little nit: the igniter was broken on the stove, but that is common. I know this from having my own RV previously. They can be finicky. We used a handheld lighter as an easy alternative. We enjoyed the trip. It’s a nice trailer that gathers questions and interest from others. The ability to reconfigure the layout to meet your needs is a nice bonus.
