We are used to traveling here in Alaska with one of our rigs so we understand and appreciate the ability of packing light, bringing only the necessities and having the ability to rent a vehicle equipped for our Adventure and Travel :) We know how difficult it can be for making your dream trip to Alaska a reality and we strive to give you the Best base camp we can fully equipped with whatever your adventurous heart desires. We are a local small business based in Palmer, Alaska and promote our neighboring small businesses all who can/will play an integral part of your adventure. Travelling with Hugo and Vincent for our first trip to Alaska was truly amazing! Kevin’s work on the vans make them the perfect vehicles for camping throughout alaska - both vans were perfectly outfitted with everything we could have needed and more, and were reliable even in rainy weather. This trip would not have been as amazing as it was without Hugo and Vincent!

We had the best time with both Vincent and Hugo on a week long Alaskan road trip! Kevin was an exceptional host in terms of communication, care, tips and the work he has put into both vans. Highly recommend if you’re looking to camp during your visit to this beautiful state!

The week and a half we spent exploring the most beautiful state in the country with Vincent (or Vinny, as we lovingly called him) was one of the absolute best of our lives - and we owe a HUGE part of that amazing experience to our camper van and to Kevin at 'Look Like a Local'.First, Vinny: Fun, quirky, comfortable, well-equipped, and purrs like a champ even on some questionable Alaska roadways. Setting up at camp was as easy as popping the top and opening the beds. Vinny is definitely a head-turner, and we had a lot of fun conversations with people asking about him! He took us from Palmer up to Denali, through Hatcher Pass (don't sleep on Hatcher Pass - this place is AMAZING), to Talkeetna to meet the cat mayor, through Chugach, along the Turnagain Arm and down to Seward for a couple days of camping on the beach. Though he's an older van with vintage charm, he started up every time, kept us safe and cozy, and added a level of fun to the trip that couldn't have been achieved with a regular, boring old camper van. One-hundred stars!!Now, Kevin: Genuine, thoughtful, kind, caring, and someone you'll consider a friend from day one. Kevin made sure we had everything we needed for a wonderful trip, gave us a couple of suggestions for places to visit, made himself available for any questions along the way, and genuinely wanted us to have a great time. A wonderful human being all around. (Thank you for everything, Kevin! I'll never visit Alaska without renting one of your rigs!)

Everything about Henry was amazing! Kevin’s craftsmanship is seen everywhere on this rig. Not one problem or scenario was well thought out and accounted for. Henry was super comfortable , cozy and a blast to operate! We were able to travel all over AK and take home away from home with us

We just spent a week in Alaska with Hugo the camper van, and let me tell you — he’s the kind of travel buddy you dream about. Reliable, comfortable, stocked with everything needed and totally cool with stopping every five minutes because you need “just one more” picture… or thought you spotted a moose that turned out to be a weirdly shaped bush.We road-tripped from Fairbanks all the way down to Homer, hitting Denali, Whittier, Seward, Exit Glacier, Portage Glacier, Anchor Point, Moose Pass, and more. We panned for gold at Gold Dredge 8 in Fairbanks, took a sled ride with the Iditarod dogs at Snowhook in Willow, and “climbed” Mount Marathon in Seward (okay, tried to — I slid back down, bringing home a wrist splint and a collection of bruises as my souvenir).

Kevin and JR are first and foremost down to earth people, living the dream in Alaska. Kevin was easy to work with, communication was top notch and there was never a moment when we had a question which wasn’t quickly and fully answered.HUGO was exactly as described and came fully prepared for an epic Alaskan Adventure. We came with more than we needed, because they had thought of pretty much everything, which included local roasted coffee to get the trip off on the right foot. Storage abound!! There is a spot for all of your food, extra camping or hiking gear and more. The ICECO fridge was the perfect spot for cold beverages, adult or otherwise and kept the grocery store visits for food to a minimum!! We made breakfast in the kitchen almost everyday to start the day, and used the included MSR stove and AREOPRESS every morning to make coffee.

One of the best road trips I've ever done! Vincent was the perfect way to travel Alaska. If you are considering this... do it! Vincent's high clearance will take you everywhere and everything feels very accessible here anyway.
Easiest way is to get an Uber up to Palmer from Anchorage as public transport is a bit tricky.

Henry the truck camper was the perfect off-grid basecamp for our trip! My wife and I were able to explore with total freedom, thanks to the camper’s self-sufficiency and thoughtful setup. As a tall guy (6’4”), I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and spacious it felt inside—plenty of headroom and sleeping space, which isn’t always the case with rigs like this.

Henry was the best companion a girl could have on an Alaska adventure. He and I drove from Palmer - Hatcher Pass - Denali - the Artic Circle - North Pole - Delta Junction - Valdez - Hatcher Pass - Palmer. Only once did I stay at a regular campground. All other nights were off the beaten path, and never did I worry that Henry couldn't make it or provide an awesome experience to be in nature. Kevin was there if I had a question about where to stay in the area I was and if I needed anything about henry. I wish I could have Henry's twin for back home. If you want to see Alaska, you NEED Henry. You won't be disappointed.

We had such an amazing time! Hugo had everything we needed (and more), and we are so glad we rented a van for this portion of our trip. We drove all around the Kenai peninsula, and found the most beautiful places to sleep. Zero issues with the van, only excellent views and adventures and tons of daylight. The flexibility in Alaska is amazing.

The van was comfortable and with the upgraded engine was more peppy than standard WV vans. We had a blast staying in various places and were able to accommodate 3 people sleeping. We got a lot of honks and waves from people and comments about the bright green color. Solid you're a fan of VW busses you will love this van.
