After meeting and traveling the world together we planted roots in Maui! We miss traveling and boating so we decided to buy a JDM camper van, this has brought us so much adventure right here on this beautiful island. The Pono Express never disappoints us, so much so we decided to share the fun with others!

We had an epic family adventure in the Pono!We spent three days/nights on the road to Hana. The Pono was perfect! We were so surprised by how well stocked it was, and how perfect it was for our family. We have two young children! Adding some details here, in case someone is planning a similar trip! The first night we stayed at a private site just outside of Hannah, it was good, but our least favorite of three places we stayed and overpriced. The second night we stayed at the Kipahulu campground and it was by far our favorite. We had site 15 which was perfect. The Pippiwei was so memorable with the kids. The third night we stayed at Wai’N park in the campground. We also really enjoyed it and it would be our second favorite campground, we had site 6, they are all fine but if you have a choice go with site 2 or 3.

Our Pono Express experience was wonderful and Joshua is the consummate host. His communication and people skills are top notch. We are both just over 6 feet and were comfortable and the vehicle outfitted well.

We were traveling with 2 adults and one toddler.
Unfortunately we had troubles with another Van that we rented so we had to switch van mid vacation.

The Toyota Hiace aka Pono Express super custom was an amazing camper van. It has everything you need, is reliable, decent on gas and is comfortable and a unique driving experience.

My husband and I rented Pono for three nights and did the road to Hana… And it was an indescribable experience that I would recommend to anyone considering it! Easy to get a breeze through the windows to sleep at night, the bed is easy to put together with the instructions in the van, the dining set is super comfy and a great place to just hang out with the door open.. also to be noted, the right hand drive combined with the narrowness of the vehicle made it PERFECT for navigating the road to Hana. Josh was super communicative and a great host and had great recommendations for places to camp and such. 10/10 will be coming back for this van in the future if time and life allows it. We were truly *Living Pono*

Josh and his van, The Pono Express were an absolute pleasure! Josh had great communication and I appreciated all his considerations to helping my trip be the best it could be.
I had a blast driving the van around island and hope to rent her again in the future 💖
