About Joe's RV rentals

Hi I'm Joe. I'm a lifelong surfer and traveler. I've just about always owned a VW camper van, I love being able to travel and stay wherever I want. I used to be a bus driver a long time ago, and ended up driving a school bus from San Diego to Costa Rica 20 years ago to start a surf camp (and I'm still here!). We bought our RV in 2017, we keep it in San Diego and use it for trips up the California coast, to Mammoth/Lake Tahoe, to the desert, or just for cruising around and surfing in San Diego. I'm married with 3 kids (4, 12,14), there is plenty of room for all of us. I hope I can share my RV with others, help to pay some bills, and make everyone happy. Pura vida!

Joe was nice enough to help us out with a very last minute booking, even though he was out of town at the time. His friend Jason who helped with the rental was super nice and accommodating with pickup & dropoff times, and very helpful with showing the RV and answering questions. Both were always available by phone to answer questions that came up. RV was very nice, roomy, and clean. The bedroom A/C ended up not working, but the main one worked great and kept the inside very comfortable on its own. Would definitely rent with him again.

Joe was very friendly and communicative, and very flexible with pickup and return times. Unfortunately when we picked up the RV, Joe wasn't there to walk us through it and being new RV renters, we needed detailed instructions. Since Joe was not available, he had his neighbor Jason walk us through, but he wasn't as knowledegeable about the RV as Joe. On pickup, the RV had some alarm going off and we had to wait about an hour while Jason called Joe to figure out how to fix it. Fortunately once we got going, Joe was very responsive to us and just a phone call or text away if we he had any questions, which we ended up having a few.As for the RV, although an older RV, it ran great and was very clean. The only issues we had were that the AC went out a couple of times, but we just reset the circuit breaker and it was fine. The other issue was that when driving the side mirrors would sometimes shift if it was windy, making it difficult to see. Overall, a great value and I would recommend, especially if you are more experienced with RVs.

Owner canceled our booking right after he confirmed it. It seemed to me that he got a better offer so he bailed on us. Pretty crappy.

Hi Stephanie,
To be honest, I cancelled less than 1 hour after you booked because you told me you had no experience driving a large vehicle. As the owner, I reserve this right. I value my RV very much and don’t want to risk an accident over a few hundred dollars. You had plenty of time to find another RV. Sorry to disappoint you, but perhaps reserve your 1-star ratings for when you actually purchase a product/service. I rent my RV out on Outdoorsy to help to support my family. None of this probably ever crossed your mind.
